A collection of people’s thoughts and opinions about anything music

Feature : Jack Tickner – Crows Feet

You really wouldn’t expect any less from Jack.

Microtonal scales out the wahzoo, reluctantly relate-able content. It’s all there. We feel ya Jack… we feel ya.

Crows Feet is the debut single of my upcoming album ‘Mud Pies’. It is a cover album of some of my favorite local bands and musicians from Sydney and Wollongong. This project exists to foster a sense of sentimentality among great local musicians who are quite often unfairly relegated to the fringes of society. It has been really fun and inspiring learning the songs of my musical peers and getting an insight into their creative method, as well as letting myself interpret the spirit of their music in whatever way I want. The album is 100% microtonal and features many different refretted guitars and retuned synthesisers. Too many tunings to name but I will name them when the album drops. – Jack Tickner

Explosive New Album From UTI – Exchange My Brain

“Mate, what the fuck… That was intense”

If you haven’t heard of Under The Influence you may be 20 years late, however, you’re tuning in at a very exciting time for the band. Having released their first record through a label they’re fired up and ready to go.

UTI have really set the bar high with this latest release. After being signed by Golden Robots Records –  (Rose Tattoo and Toe To Toe), The band smoke bombed Wollongong’s stages, performing only a handful of times, constantly working on the album.

But now… They’re back. And boy do they have a treat for you.

Exchange My Brain is a whole new UTI – The first release by the group after a line up change bringing Kino up front and singing solo instead of singing whilst drumming. The addition of Dan on drums results in one of the most powerful Wollongong releases to date. You can listen to it on spotify under ‘Exchange My Brain – Under The Influence’.

The video below is from the Dusty archive vault – The ‘Wasted Youth’ UTI Line up

Under The Influence are back with an album that puts all others to shame. Hit after hit, every track on this release is a winner. With each song displaying a new and experimental vibe, the boys have created a group of hard-hitting jams that manage to differentiate between each other whilst maintaining that recognisably unique ‘UTI’ sound. The only thing wrong with this album is that it ends, so get ready to wear out that repeat button because it’s hard to get sick of listening to this absolute winner.

I speak on behalf of everyone I’ve talked to about the album when I say, the new direction the band is taking is definitely welcomed by hardcore fans. Since Moey joined the band UTI have been slowly worming their way to more thrash than hash. But I personally believe they’ve hit the mark with this line up and sound. The album is heavily produced but not over done. It’s got all the bells and whistles you want from taking the time and adjusting EVERYTHING to how you envisage. It’s done, not subtly, but comfortably. It’s a HUGE sound with such an open feeling. Which is very difficult to do and they’ve pulled it off seamlessly. I cranked the album loud through good speakers as I laid my head down to take it all in, and fuck…. What a time.

I’m excited to see what the future holds for UTI and how the boys take a hold of something special that they have. Don’t spoil it gents! You’re kicking goals! Follow their socials to keep up to date with shows, releases and extra content and don’t miss out!

Song Of The Week – Doin by DURRY

“The creators of crackedcore, grottiest cunts goin, bumper erching bongslaves DURRY

Hailing from the graffed up tunnels and train yards of Sydney and surrounding, DURRY don’t give a fuck what you’re into, they’re just here for a good time. This weeks ‘Song Of The Week’ is ‘Doin’- opening track off their 2018 EP – ‘Muzz With The Duzz’ which you can download from bandcamp or get physical copies through these links – Cassettes, Stocked Distro – CD’s, Bruxism Records. Listen to ‘Doin’ in the player below.

DURRY love nothing more than to have a mix with mates, collaborate on some filthy shit and absolutely send it at shows.  ‘Doin’ was the first song I ever heard of theirs, and is still up there as one of my favourites. What do you think?

After over a year of waiting and drooling in anticipation of the next Hoon show, I must say: it was definitely worth the wait.

It was a spectacle to see so many supporters of Hoon gathered in a single room. Although there was rain and thunder outside, the electricity and atmosphere generated by 200+ Hoon fans inside the Uni Bar created, possibly, one of the best shows of 2019..

You had to be there.

Lotus Lake

Perfect openers for the night. A generous mix between Rock and Reggae. Smooth bass lines grooving to solid beats, a wailing synth, and plenty of smiles. I like when you can tell a band is enjoying just being up on stage and playing their music. A very wholesome experience filled with genuine, easy listening tunes.

A new up-and-coming ‘The Runaways’-esque Rock n’ Roll band. Homewrecker are gaining traction and gearing up to spread their wings. With a gutsy as fuck bass tone that truly stands out and an enthusiastic attitude, Homewrecker can easily scratch your dirty Rock n’ Roll itch. It’s great to see people so young getting up on stage and getting their name out there.

Naughty Naughty And The Good Boys

The always energetic, hyper blues band, ‘Naughty Naughty’, have been screaming and crawling on the floor like an angry toddler for a while now. What a high paced, scummy performance of great music. Always entertaining and engaging, they charge through their set with complete dis-regard for property, audience, and themselves.

Definitely go to their shows. Scum out and piss your pants—you’ll fit in just fine. Lovely people playing lovely music, check out their socials for updates – Facebook – Instagram | Music – Bandcamp

Space Boys

Fucken’ Space Boys. Where do I start? A humble group of jolly chaps absolutely ripping up the Uni Bar with their fuzzy, down right dirty tunes. A sweaty, slipping, sliding, front man sharing the mic with the crowd, engaging, and including the audience. Space Boys always create a memorable atmosphere. Whether you’re seeing them for the first time or for the 50th time, they always make you feel like you’ve been mates for years.

Well… It finally happened. The highly anticipated comeback show from one of the most creative, insightful, and inspirational bands to ever come out of Wollongong. Forever unpredictable. Never average. Hoon have always put their ALL into every show. However, they have truly topped it off with this one.

A brilliant, chaotic fusion of emotion, talent, and ambition. Hoon’s music is a push and pull between wonder and satisfaction. It actually hurts how good their songwriting is. But it’s not just that. They’re a gift from the heavens. Not of this world. Every single member fits perfectly into the meticulously designed unit that is Hoon. It’s only function: Take Over The World. They’re doing their best but need our help.

Please support all Hoon endeavours (like you weren’t going to anyway) and keep them creating.
